Villa Doris Guest House

Our story

Villa Doris began in 2007, when we bought a neglected ravine in Nono with a 40-year-old adobe house: two bedrooms, a bathroom and a small kitchen-dining area. Little by little we rebuilt it into a cozy cottage for small groups who want to explore the real Ecuador, and the ravine became a garden of native trees and flowers, now home to hummingbirds, birds and other wildlife.

Villa Doris sits in the village of Nono at 2,875 meters above sea level, surrounded by the Chocó Andino de Pichincha Biosphere Reserve, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. Here, the mist drifts over the mountains and the days move at the pace of the forest.

We love what we do and want to share our country with you. Come to Nono, and take home wonderful memories, the warmth of our people and the gratitude of our family, who put their soul into making this place possible.

Our Villa welcomes up to 12 guests in six comfortable and lovely rooms.

Villa Doris Experiences:

We offer an array of daily activities to explore Nono and the cloud forest

A day in the clouds (Day Tour)

The village of Nono was the ninth county founded by the Jesuits in the colonial times, and remained as a solitary, almost forgotten town, just 20km northwest of Quito.

Because of this particularity, we can offer you a day tour to an off-the-beaten path destination, where you will learn about Ecuadorian history and culture, meet local people, photograph colorful hummingbirds, wild flowers and bromeliads. Hike while the clouds cover the mountains and the village, giving it a mysterious and mystic touch!

We will visit Zuro Loma, one of the most important bird reserves in the cloud forest, to have a close encounter with hummingbirds living in high altitude.

Lunch is included at our country house.

2. Nono & the Eco-route of the Hummingbird (2 days / 1 night)

Just an hour from Quito, this short getaway trades the city for village life, forest paths and a long table at the end of the day.

Sustainability We choose destinations where communities, nature and responsible travel go hand in hand, and we try to leave every place a little better than we found it. Here is what that looks like in practice. Investing where we operate Inca Holidays invests in the communities it works with. We partner with community-based projects that offer local stays, we hire local guides, offer cultural tours and food experiences. Community experiences We work with a few community-based projects that offer local stays, ecotourism, cultural tours and food experiences. Travelers pay a fair price, and the community earns additional income. Growing native forest At Villa Doris we have planted a garden of native tree species, and we encourage and take part in reforestation projects with Alambi Raíces Nativas and Voyages de Rêve. Respect Our guides share the culture and traditions of each place, encourage buying local crafts and taking all rubbish with us. Low energy, low noise All lighting at Villa Doris is LED to reduce energy use. We also keep noise to a minimum: no parties and no loud music, to protect the peace of our guests and the wildlife. Gentler cleaning We use biodegradable products made with plant-based oils instead of chlorine bleach and petrochemicals, safer for guests, staff and nature. Refill, don’t buy Filtered water dispensers and complimentary refillable bottles mean no single-use plastic bottles for our guests. Furniture with a second life Much of Villa Doris’s charm comes from antiques, refurbished pieces and furniture made from recycled materials. From producers to your plate At Villa Doris, our menus are built around organic, seasonal ingredients from nearby producers, so every dish tastes of the place. We also plan our meals carefully to keep food waste to a minimum.
